YOGURT AND OAT FLAKES (OVERNIGHT OATS) with NOUGAT

OVERNIGHT OATS with NOUGAT
We have learned it by now, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us the right boost and the necessary energy to face the day’s various tasks.
Today I present to you this recipe for a Breakfast of Oat Flakes, Milk, and Greek Yogurt, a sort of Porridge that is prepared very quickly, rich in energy and taste, the OVERNIGHT OATS with Honey and Nougat.
A nice cup of this dessert of Anglo-Saxon origins and we will be ready to face the challenges of the day, whether it’s in the office, at school, at home for housework or, for those who can, to be tourists in villages and cities.
For those who don’t know, Overnight Porridge is a variant of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that doesn’t require cooking, perfect for those who have little time or don’t want to cook. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the fridge overnight and in the morning it is ready to be enjoyed with your favorite topping.
An extremely easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed together with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored to taste with vanilla, and sweetened with honey. Once mixed, the mixture does not need to be cooked, it just needs to be placed in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
You can also watch the video within the recipe to follow each step, although I assure you it’s really easy and I’m sure you won’t need it.
Once ready, you’ll only need to decide whether to layer it or not with yogurt of your favorite flavor, spreadable creams, and garnish it with the Topping of your choice as there are endless delicious possibilities.
In today’s recipe, I created a first layer with the Porridge, a second layer of 0% Greek yogurt to which I added Honey and pieces of Nougat, and simply finished by adding Peanuts (the Nougat was with Peanuts), other pieces of Nougat, and a few drops of Honey.
Moreover, it can also be a way to use up leftover Nougat from Christmas or New Year’s Eve, in fact, I had the one with Peanuts and Honey, but any other type of nougat is fine.
You’ll see how this cup of uncooked Porridge will satisfy you for a long time and you’ll reach lunch without that annoying feeling of hunger. And if during the day you feel peckish or even in the evening after dinner you want to indulge in a dessert, this spoon dessert will be perfect.
What are you waiting for then, let’s start preparing it together!

Ingredients

  • 1.75 oz oat flakes
  • 0.5 cup water (or plant-based milk or cow's milk)
  • 1 tsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 4.23 oz 0% fat Greek yogurt
  • 3.53 oz 0% fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 0.88 oz white nougat
  • white nougat
  • nuts
  • honey

Tools

  • Bowl
  • 2 Cups

Steps

  • In a bowl, mix together oat flakes, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or another plant-based drink) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single-serving cup and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  • After resting and before consuming, finish the preparation. Put 0% Greek yogurt in a bowl, add a tablespoon of honey, and stir to combine. Cut the Nougat (softer is better) into very small pieces, add it to the Yogurt, and mix. Pour it over the layer of Porridge and level with the back of a spoon.

  • Your Overnight Oats with Honey and Nougat would already be delicious like this, but if you want to make it even more indulgent, garnish it with more pieces of Nougat, toasted peanuts that recall those in the nougat, and a few drops of honey. Enjoy your breakfast!

NOTES

WATER For an even creamier porridge, you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based milk (soy, almond, oat, rice).

HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener for a lighter version.

VANILLA It’s incredible how a pinch of this essence can improve the taste of your Porridge, but if you don’t like this spice, you can omit it.

NIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and the oats to soften to the perfect consistency.

NUT: For this preparation, opt for a soft nougat and cut it into very small pieces before mixing it with the yogurt for better chewability. Any type of Nougat will do: with peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, and even for the most indulgent, the chocolate one.

NUTS: I used roasted Peanuts to echo the flavor of the Nougat, of course, if you use one of another type, it would be better to match the same type of nuts.

STORAGE

The OVERNIGHT OATS with Nougat and Honey can be prepared the night before for the next day, in fact, it will be even better. Once ready, it can be stored in the fridge in a closed container for up to 2 days.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • How can I achieve the right consistency of Oat Flakes?

To achieve the perfect consistency of the oats, it’s all about the oat/liquid ratio. In general, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a bit more liquid; if they are too runny, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water next time.

  • How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and toppings to the Oat Flakes?

Overnight Oats can be too sweet when paired with certain toppings (like hazelnut or pistachio cream). Keep this in mind when layering it, and perhaps try a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

  • Can I heat my Overnight Oats or should it be eaten cold?

Overnight Oats are traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer them warm, you can heat them for a few seconds in the microwave.
