Ingredients for Chocolate and Rum Eggs

  • 3 slices sponge cake
  • 5.3 oz milk chocolate
  • 5.3 oz dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons rum

Steps for Chocolate and Rum Eggs

  • Cut the cake slices into chunks and place them in the mixer. Then, chop until you have a crumbled mixture.

Melt the milk chocolate in a double boiler or microwave, and pour it over the mixture. Also add the two tablespoons of rum and gently mix with a spatula.

Now form the eggs. Take a tablespoon of dough and shape it into small eggs with your hands (with these quantities, I made 20 eggs). As you prepare them, place them on a tray.

Let the treats set for 15 minutes at room temperature.

After the resting time, dip the eggs in the melted dark chocolate and place them on a sheet of parchment paper or in paper cups.

Let the chocolate coating dry at room temperature.

Tips for Making Chocolate Eggs

You can vary the type of chocolate coating. For example, you can cover them with white chocolate (7 oz), in which you can dissolve a few drops of food coloring. In this case, divide the melted chocolate into two bowls and choose two food colors of your choice.

You can enrich the chocolate eggs’ coating with chopped hazelnuts, pistachios, or grated coconut.

You can replace the milk chocolate added to the dough with dark chocolate, for a more intense flavor.

If you want to let children taste these eggs, omit the rum in the dough.

You can also use slices of colomba as a base.

Storage

The chocolate and rum eggs keep for 3-4 days, stored in an airtight container.
