For a tasty and appetizing dinner, the bread and ham pie is just what we need. It’s a simply delicious recipe, very easy, to enrich and customize with what we already have in the fridge. It can be useful to use up stale bread or excess cold cuts, cheese, and vegetables. By reducing the size of the bread slices, we can prepare them for a buffet, to accompany aperitifs, for Saturday night dinner or as a snack to enjoy in your free time. The bread and ham pie can be served both hot and cold; moreover, it can be made well in advance and reheated before serving.

Ingredients
- 12 slices bread
- 100 ml milk or cold broth
- 6.3 oz ham (raw or cooked)
- 2 large whole eggs
- to taste fine salt and pepper
- 1.8 oz gorgonzola
- to taste table cheese, grated
Tools
- 1 Baking Pan square oven pan 9.5×9.5 inches
Steps
Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
Slice the bread about 0.4 inches thick and place a first layer in the pan, filling any spaces with crumbs.
Brush the bread slices with a little milk and cover them with ham (raw, cooked, speck, mortadella, and so on).
Cut the gorgonzola into small cubes and sprinkle half over the ham.
Brush the remaining bread slices with milk and place them on the others, trying to make them match as much as possible.
Beat the whole eggs with the remaining milk, adding fine salt and pepper, and slowly pour the mixture over the bread, making sure to soak the whole pie (perhaps using a brush).
Finish with the remaining gorgonzola cubes and a generous grating of table cheese and bake on the lowest oven rack at 356°F, for about 20 minutes or until golden.
