How many times have you heard about plain rice? I imagine many. It is generally eaten to settle the stomach a little after overeating, during periods of flu, or simply because you want to stay light. In reality, plain rice is not a specific recipe, but an adjective used to define boiled rice seasoned with butter or a drizzle of oil and Parmesan. Which rice to use? I usually prepare it with arborio rice or carnaroli rice.

Plain rice can also be prepared in the microwave, by placing the rice and a thin layer of water in a suitable container. Power 700 for 10 minutes, and the rice is ready. Alternatively, it can be steamed for about 20-25 minutes.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Cooking time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 4
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 5 ladles Rice
  • 1.75 oz Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Preparation

  • For the preparation of plain rice, use a large and spacious pot. Fill it with water, put it over the heat, and bring to a boil. At temperature, you can add the salt and pour in the rice. The cooking time depends on the type of rice you use, so I recommend reading the label on the rest. On average, the rice is ready after 15 minutes.

  • At this point, you can drain it, pour it into a bowl, and season it with olive oil. Mix to combine everything, serve on plates, and garnish with Parmesan.

If you prefer butter, remember to take it out of the fridge as soon as you throw the rice into the pot, and once drained, add it to the rice and season with Parmesan.
