The fake cookies without butter and eggs are very simple and easy-to-make treats that remind us of the iconic American cookies in texture and somewhat in shape. The first time I made them, I absolutely didn’t expect this result, I just thought I was making a lighter version of the classic Chocolate Chip Cookies based on shortcrust pastry. Once tasted, I thought these will be my fake cookies!
Preparing them is really simple and the dough does not need to rest … they will be ready in no time! Just pour all the ingredients into a bowl, knead with your hands and put them in the air fryer or oven.
At home, my official taster is my son, and I assure you that he is the most critical in the family, especially on revisited recipes! When I prepared these fake cookies, he approved them with flying colors, so I decided to propose them to you. I recommend preparing these Fake Cookies as soon as you have the chance or when you’ve run out of butter and eggs (this happened to me) and don’t want to give up making something sweet and good.

Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (or a bar to chop)
- 3 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (sunflower or corn)
- 3 1/2 tbsp semi-skimmed milk
- Half packet baking powder (8 g)
- 1 pinch salt

Steps
Pour all the ingredients into a bowl
Knead with your hands until you get a compact but soft dough.
Form walnut-sized balls, slightly flatten them with the palm of your hand
Preheat the air fryer for a couple of minutes. Place the cookies spaced apart on the air fryer rack, as they will flatten during cooking. Cook at 340°F (170°C) for 10-12 minutes
Let them cool before removing them from the rack
After kneading the mixture, form the balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, bake in a fan oven at 340°F (170°C) for 10-12 minutes and in a static oven at 360°F (180°C) for 15 minutes.
Take them out and let them cool on a rack before serving.
Result
The Fake Cookies will be soft right out of the oven, but once cooled, they will harden and become crunchy

Storage and Variations of the Fake Cookies
The Fake Cookies can be stored for about 3-4 days in an airtight container.
The dark chocolate chips can be replaced with milk or white chocolate chips, or mix white and dark. If you prefer a slightly less caloric version, you can replace the chocolate with 80 g of raisins
