Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake in Air Fryer

in

This Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake in Air Fryer stems from the base of my orange plumcake, a well-tested recipe I love for its simplicity and intense citrus aroma. From that soft and fragrant base, I wanted to create an even more delicious variant by adding cocoa and always completing it with homemade orange syrup, making the cake moist and irresistible.

The Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake, cooked in Air Fryer, is ideal for breakfast or snack, also perfect as a dessert after a meal, and is best the day after when the batter absorbs the syrup and becomes even more aromatic and irresistible. So if you love citrus flavors, the orange syrup is really the touch that makes the difference; it takes no time to prepare and is very simple.

Cooking in Air Fryer is practical and fast, perfect when you crave a genuine dessert without turning on the oven. However, if you don’t have an air fryer or prefer the traditional method, all directions for oven baking are at the end of the recipe: the preparation remains the same.
Are you ready? Let’s move to the kitchen and prepare this delight together 😍

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (corn)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 orange (juice and untreated zest)
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 orange (juice and untreated zest)
  • 1.5 tbsp water
  • 2/3 cup sugar

Tools

Recommended Tools

  • 1 Air Fryer
  • 1 Electric Whisk
  • 2 Bowls
  • 1 Sieve
  • 1 Citrus Juicer
  • 1 Bundt Cake Pan 8.6/9.4 inches
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Toothpick for skewers
  • 1 Baking Dish

Steps

Preparations for the Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake in Air Fryer

  • In a bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and a pinch of salt with an electric whisk for 10 minutes until you obtain a fluffy and frothy mixture

  • Add the vegetable oil in a thin stream and incorporate it into the mixture while continuing to mix

  • Now add the sifted flour and baking powder, continuing to mix with the whisk

  • Now add the milk and mix well until absorbed

  • Add the filtered juice and grated zest of the orange to the batter and mix gently

  • Divide the mixture into two bowls. Set one part aside and, in the other, add the sifted cocoa and 3 tablespoons of milk. Mix well with a spatula until you get a homogeneous batter.

  • If the batter is too thick, add another tablespoon of milk.

  • Butter and flour a bundt cake pan. Start by pouring the white batter

  • Continue alternating the two batters by pouring the chocolate one onto the white one and vice versa until they are completely used up

  • With a toothpick, make light spiral movements to create the two-tone effect

  • Preheat the air fryer for 2/3 minutes at 320°F, place the pan on the grill of the drawer, and cook for 30 minutes

  • Once cooking is complete, do the toothpick test in multiple spots: if it’s dry, the cake is ready, otherwise continue for a few more minutes.
Before removing from the pan, let it cool completely

  • While the cake is cooling, prepare the orange syrup. Grate the zest and extract the juice of an orange. Put them in a saucepan with the sugar, mix with a whisk and let it dissolve. Also add the water and move to the stove

  • Bring to a boil, stirring with the whisk. Turn off the stove and allow the syrup to cool

  • Now that your cake has cooled, you can garnish it with the syrup. Remove it from the pan and put it inside a baking dish, so the syrup you pour will fall inside and not be wasted. Make holes with the help of a skewer stick. The more you make, the more syrup it will absorb; do not go all the way down

  • Pour the syrup slowly, trying to filter it into the holes as much as possible.

  • With the help of a spoon, collect the syrup that has dripped into the baking dish and distribute it on the cake

  • Can you smell that? Its flavor is very reminiscent of the famous chocolate and orange snack cake… but with an extra kick! In my cake, no alcoholic soak, just lots of goodness, perfect for the little ones! Let me know!

Oven Cooking

The Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake can be baked in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 35/40 minutes, always do the toothpick test and adjust to your oven

Storage, Tips and Variations

Storage

The Orange and Cocoa Bundt Cake stays soft for several days covered with a cake dome or plastic wrap

Tips

If you have difficulty baking desserts in the air fryer, here are some useful tips, especially if your friggy has only one resistance:

• Use non-stick or aluminum pans: they distribute heat evenly, facilitating the baking of the cake base.

• Cover the pan with aluminum foil, securing it well to the edges so that the air does not move it towards the resistance. Uncover it after 20-25 minutes and continue baking until done.

➡️ Attention! It is very important to secure it well: if it moves it could burn and cause a fire hazard.

• Avoid lining the pan with parchment paper: it slows down baking and keeps the mixture too moist. I only use it in really exceptional cases.

• Place the pan on the rack, which promotes proper air circulation.

Variations

You can add chocolate chips on top or in the batter if you want to make the cake even more delicious

If you don’t want to make the syrup, although I recommend it, you can simply dust the surface with powdered sugar.
