Baked Tortellini with Meat Sauce and Peas is a very delicious and tasty first course, a quick and savory idea to bring a different but very inviting dish to the table that even children will love.

It’s a simple dish to prepare, the tortellini cooked in a few minutes are mixed together with the meat sauce and peas, all combined with a good amount of cheese and provola that will allow you to serve a tasty and unique first course.

Baked tortellini are exceptional, they lend themselves to many variations and are perfect for Sunday family lunch.
I prepared them quickly because I had some leftover meat sauce and peas, but it can be quickly prepared in 20 minutes.

Ingredients for Baked Tortellini with Meat Sauce and Peas

  • 10.5 oz Meat Tortellini (fresh)
  • 8.8 oz Ground Meat (veal)
  • Half Onion
  • 10.5 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 5.3 oz Provola
  • 1.8 oz Grana Padano DOP (grated)
  • 3.5 oz Frozen Peas
  • as needed Olive Oil
  • as needed Salt
  • 1 sprig Basil

Preparation for Baked Tortellini with Meat Sauce and Peas

  • In a pan, sauté the chopped onion with oil and the ground meat, when the meat changes color, add the tomato sauce, cook for a few minutes, then add the peas.

  • Add salt, half a glass of water, and cook slowly for about 20 minutes, leaving the sauce very soft.
    In a separate pot, bring water to a boil.

  • Salt and cook the fresh meat tortellini for about 3 minutes, drain and mix with the meat sauce, leaving a few spoonfuls for the end. Add some of the grated grana and pieces of provola.

    Mix everything well and then pour into a baking dish. Add the remaining sauce, grated grana, and more pieces of provola, then transfer to a preheated oven.

  • Bake the tortellini at 350°F for about 15 minutes until the provola has completely melted and a light crust has formed on the surface.
    Remove from oven and serve hot with pieces of fresh basil.

You can replace the fresh tortellini with dry ones, but the cooking time will change. You can also use scamorza or mozzarella instead of provola.
