Ingredients for the fragrant orange and chocolate cookies

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 7 tbsps butter
  • 6 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 egg (large)
  • 2 orange zest (grated)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • as needed powdered sugar

Tools

  • Bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven

Preparation for the fragrant orange and chocolate cookies

  • In a bowl, work well the softened butter with the sugar, add the grated orange zest, the egg, and continue to work with a spoon or whisk until the ingredients are well combined

  • Proceed by adding the juice of half an orange, the salt, and finally gradually the sifted flour and baking powder.
Mix well, pour in the chocolate chips, and knead until you get a good soft dough, it should not be mushy but not too dry either.

  • Take small balls from the dough then pass them in powdered sugar, roll them well, it must be abundant because it remains visible even after baking in the oven.

  • Place the cookies on a non-stick or parchment-lined baking sheet, slightly spaced apart. If the dough is very soft, let them rest for at least 20 minutes in the fridge, otherwise, bake them immediately. However, it is advisable to let them rest a bit before baking.

  • Bake the cookies in a preheated static oven at 356°F for about 15 minutes or convection for 10-12 minutes if you want soft cookies, if you want them crunchier, extend the baking by a few minutes.

  • You will notice that during baking the cookies flatten and form some cracks.
This is a characteristic of theirs.
Turn off the oven, take out the cookies which should be light on the surface and not too golden, let them cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar again and then serve.

  • Serve the cookies when they are well cooled!
