Ingredients for the cake

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 tbsp corn oil (or 1/2 cup butter)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 3 eggs (medium)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon zest (or grated orange zest)
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 package baking powder
  • 2 apples (red or yellow)
  • 3 1/2 oz dark chocolate

Steps

  • In a bowl, work the eggs well with the sugar until they become very frothy, you can do it by hand or with an electric whisk, then pour in the milk, oil, and grated lemon or orange zest, your choice.
    If you prefer, also add some vanilla flavoring.
    Gradually pour in the sifted flour and baking powder, work until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough.
    Pour the dough into a greased and floured 9.4-inch donut mold.

  • Peel the apples, cut half into cubes and the rest into thin slices, also chop the dark chocolate.
    Add the apple cubes and some pieces of dark chocolate to the dough, decorate the surface with apple slices, sprinkle a little cinnamon and a pinch of sugar, pour the rest of the grated chocolate and transfer the mold to the oven.

  • Bake the milk cake with apples in a preheated ventilated oven at 356°F for about 30 minutes, or static for 40 minutes.
    The cooking time varies based on the power of your oven, after 30 minutes do the toothpick test and if necessary, extend the cooking time.
    After baking, remove from the oven, let the cake cool, and then place it on a serving plate.
    You can also add some powdered sugar if you prefer.
    The cake is ready to be sliced and served.

Storage and Tips

The cake can be stored in a cool place for about 2 days.
You can use the apples you have at home, both red and yellow are fine.
If you are lactose intolerant, replace whole milk with lactose-free milk.
