Preparation for oven-baked sandwich rolls with aromatic breading
For this recipe, use sandwich bread with long slices without crust.
Flatten the sandwich bread slices slightly with a rolling pin; I used a long slice to have large rolls, if you prefer smaller ones, divide the slice in half.
Fill the sandwich bread slice with ham and thin slices of provola, then gently roll the sandwich bread, set aside, and do the same with the other slices.Prepare the aromatic breading for coating: take a bowl and add the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, salt, garlic, and chopped parsley, mix everything well.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs with a pinch of salt.
Quickly dip each roll in the beaten egg, soak it well on all sides, then in the aromatic breadcrumbs, making sure the coating adheres well.Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and drizzle with olive oil, place the rolls on the parchment paper and then drizzle again with a little oil.
COOKING
Bake in a preheated oven at 355°F for about 10 – 15 minutes, take care to turn the rolls halfway through cooking to brown them evenly.
Once baked, you can enjoy them hot or cold, cut into many rolls.
Tips and Variations
Use a compact melting cheese (like scamorza or galbanino), not a watery one like mozzarella that would soak the sandwich bread.
Baking makes the sandwich bread rolls light and digestible, but if you prefer, you can fry them in a pan with peanut oil.
This is a basic recipe that you can always customize with different fillings according to your taste.
Can I fry the rolls?
Yes, of course, if you prefer frying, fry in a pan in hot oil, turn, and then drain with absorbent paper
