The pear jam with chocolate and rum is a special sweet preserve that is very delicious, which is also loved by children.
Don’t worry, the alcohol evaporates during cooking!
More than a jam, it seems like tasting a delicious cream perfect to use for breakfast, snack, or to fill our desserts.

This preserve is really very good and energetic, rich in fruit, cocoa, and chocolate with the pleasant taste of rum, which I like a lot.
A combination of ingredients that make this jam special but appreciated by everyone!

It takes very little to create something delicious with our hands to enjoy immediately, or preserve as a gift jar for the dearest people.

Ingredients for pear jam with chocolate and rum

  • 1.5 lbs Ripe pears
  • 1.25 cups Brown sugar
  • 3 tbsps Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.75 oz Dark chocolate
  • 2 tbsps Rum
  • 1 Juiced orange

Tools

  • 1 Pot
  • 1 Stove
  • 2 Jars

Preparation for pear jam with chocolate and rum

  • Wash and peel the pears, then cut them into pieces.
Place them in a non-stick pot along with the brown sugar and the juiced orange, add the cocoa, mix everything well and cook on low heat for about 30 minutes.
This also depends on the pears, if they are too watery, they require more cooking.

  • Stir occasionally until the fruit breaks down and becomes a thick puree.
Almost at the end of cooking, add the rum and dark chocolate, stir and cook for a few more minutes, just enough time for the dark chocolate to melt.
If you want a smooth jam, blend it with a hand blender for a few minutes.
Transfer the hot jam into glass jars, already washed and sterilized.

  • Seal and close the jars hermetically, place them in a pot with boiling water, turn on the stove and sterilize for another 15 minutes.
This is to create a vacuum seal and keep the product longer.
Turn off the stove, let the jars cool in the water, then remove them, checking the vacuum seal before dating and storing in the pantry.

Anna recommends…

Use sweet and ripe pears.

If you want sweeter jam, you can add more sugar.

Sterilized jam jars keep for about 6 months.
Once the jar is opened, it should be stored in the fridge and consumed within 5 – 7 days.

  • Can I use any type of pear?

Yes, of course, as long as they are sweet and ripe, and the cooking time varies if they are a bit more watery.
