The savory puff pastry star with cherry tomatoes and olives is a quick and very scenic appetizer perfect for Christmas Eve or Christmas lunch. It is filled with cheese, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, and black olives.

It’s also a quick idea for a simple appetizer that can be served for a quick aperitif, a buffet, or at other occasions.

At my place, we use a lot of fish on Christmas Eve and more meat for Christmas lunch, and among various appetizers, I always prepare something practical and quick that everyone, even the little ones, enjoys, and this savory star is ideal and always appreciated by everyone.

The recipe is very fast; just buy a ready-made roll, stuff it with the ingredients, and in less than half an hour it’s ready. The fragrance of the freshly baked puff pastry and the softness of the filling will make this savory pie rich in taste and flavors.

Ingredients for the Savory Puff Pastry Star with Cherry Tomatoes and Olives

  • 1 roll puff pastry (round)
  • as needed fresh spreadable cheese
  • 23 cherry tomatoes
  • 7 black olives
  • as needed oregano
  • as needed basil

Preparation for the Savory Puff Pastry Star with Cherry Tomatoes and Olives

Procedure:

  • Open the puff pastry roll and, with all the parchment paper, place it on a baking sheet.
    Make 8 cuts on the edge, with a pizza cutter or knife as shown in the attached picture.
    Stuff the pastry with creamy spreadable cheese or cottage cheese flakes.

  • Place some cherry tomato pieces and a drained mini mozzarella ball or replace with provolone pieces on each cut edge.
    Once the edges are stuffed, pull the two edges together to form a triangle, do this with the other edges, close well by pressing with your fingers.

  • Stuff the central part by adding the cherry tomatoes, mini mozzarella balls, and black olives. Sprinkle with a bit of oregano and proceed to cook in a preheated oven, placing the baking sheet on the lower part of the oven.

  • Bake the puff pastry star in a preheated fan-assisted oven at 392°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 356°F (180°C), transfer the baking sheet to the upper rack, and continue baking for another 20 minutes.
    Remove the star from the oven, add fresh basil, and serve it hot on a serving plate.
