Simple, fast, super soft, and super delicious.
Cinnamon donuts are a very simple dessert to prepare, fragrant and delicious, try them, with their super soft dough and the aroma and scent of cinnamon will conquer you at first taste.
I love cinnamon desserts, especially in the fall and winter, they fill the house with a delicious smell, cookies, apple pie, cinnamon rolls, shortcrust pastry, brioche all delicious desserts that taste like Christmas 🙂
These donuts are also very simple and quick to prepare, they only have one rise and are uniquely delicious 🙂
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Economical
- Rest time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 4 people
- Cooking methods: Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Manitoba flour
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp butter (at room temperature)
- 2 medium eggs
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 tsp fresh yeast (Or 1 1/4 tsp dry yeast)
- grated peel of one orange (or untreated lemon)
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- to taste peanut oil
- to taste sugar
- to taste ground cinnamon
Tools
- 1 Kneading Board
- 1 Cutter
- 1 Rolling Pin
- 1 Frying Pan
Steps
Warm the milk slightly.
Dissolve the yeast in the milk.
Put the sifted flour, cinnamon, and sugar in the mixer, spin for a moment at the first speed (with the K hook).Add the eggs, the yeast dissolved in milk, the butter, and the grated orange peel and start kneading at low speed.
Then add the pinch of salt and knead for a few minutes, you should obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough that does not stick to your hands (if necessary, you can add a drop of milk or a sprinkle of flour).
Pour the obtained dough onto a floured board and work it for a few minutes, now the dough is ready, let it rest for 10 minutes.
You can also knead by hand by pouring all the ingredients into a bowl and kneading until it becomes a dough, then transfer it onto the board and knead by hand until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough that does not stick to your hands.
Let’s prepare the donuts:
After 10 minutes, take the dough, divide it into 2 parts and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch high.
With a pastry cutter (or with a milk cup) cut many circles and with a much smaller cutter make a hole in the center thus forming donuts (you can also use a shot glass).
Place the donuts one by one on a lightly floured tea towel and let them rise until doubled.Proceed the same way with the other dough and then with the dough scraps that you will knead together.
As soon as the donuts are well risen (for me it took 1 and a half hours, but it depends on the room temperature) heat plenty of oil in a high-edged frying pan (it must reach 340°F, you can check if the oil is at temperature by inserting a small piece of dough, if it immediately rises to the surface and bubbles appear near it, the oil is ready) and cook the donuts over medium-low heat a few at a time letting them brown on both sides (the donuts will float on the oil during frying).
Once cooked, let them dry on a paper towel for a moment and while still very hot, roll them in granulated sugar to which you have added cinnamon to taste (I used half a teaspoon).
Serve them warm, or lukewarm.
Place the milk and yeast in the bowl for 20 seconds/speed 4.
Add all the other ingredients of the dough Knead/5 minutes.
Transfer the dough to the lightly floured board and knead by hand until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough that does not stick to your hands (if necessary, you can add a drop of milk or a sprinkle of flour). Then let it rest for 10 minutes.
Proceed with the preparation, rising, and frying of the donuts as indicated above in the traditional method.
The cinnamon donuts are ready to be enjoyed. Enjoy your dessert!
