Grandma’s post-holiday deflating herbal tea.

Simple, economical, effective.

During the holidays, we all ate a bit too much, and now we feel bloated and heavy. In times like these, ancient remedies, natural ones like this grandma’s deflating herbal tea, help to deflate the belly and shed some accumulated weight along with a proper diet.

The ingredients of this herbal tea are wild fennel seeds that clean the blood, support kidneys and heart, and balance hormones, in addition to being an excellent antiseptic, diuretic, and natural detoxifier that deflates the belly and aids digestion; Lemon not only aids digestion, but also detoxifies the body, reduces the absorption of fats and sugars once food is ingested, and is rich in vitamin C and minerals that help strengthen the immune system; and bay leaves perfect for digestive issues, soothe coughs, help with sore throats, and ease muscle pain; combining these ingredients gives you a tea that can be drunk at any time of the day, which, together with a proper diet, will help deflate you and is great for the body.

Remember, if you have health issues, take medications, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, always consult your doctor before taking any kind of herbal tea, even this natural one.

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Very economical
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 3 cups
  • Cooking methods: Boiling
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 4 leaves bay leaves
  • 1 lemon (untreated)
  • 2 tablespoons wild fennel seeds
  • to taste honey (or sweetener)

Tools

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Peeler
  • 1 Cup
  • 1 Strainer

Steps

  • Crush the fennel seeds.

    Rinse the bay leaves thoroughly.

Wash the lemon well to remove all impurities from the peel. Be sure to use an organic, untreated lemon, and using a peeler, remove the entire peel (only the yellow part, being careful not to cut the white part, which would be very bitter). While the herbal tea is boiling, squeeze the lemon juice and set it aside.

Place the water in a saucepan (or kettle), add the crushed fennel seeds, bay leaves, and lemon peel. Put everything on the heat and let it simmer for 8 minutes from boiling over very low heat. At this point, turn off the heat, add the lemon juice, and a little honey (or sweetener, or stevia) if you prefer it less bitter. Stir well and let it steep for another 3 minutes covered, then strain it and drink it while still hot, preferably after meals, though it’s good at any time of the day.

  • Herbal teas help deflate and shed fluids, but they do not replace diets or a correct diet.
