The stuffed baked mussels are a delightful and simple seafood appetizer, ideal for starting an important fish-based meal such as for New Year’s or Christmas Eve. At least in our house, even Christmas lunch begins with stuffed mussels as I will show you today.
A very simple recipe with a few tasty ingredients that will make everyone happy.
These are simply half mussels filled with the mollusk, breadcrumbs, and many aromas all drenched with the mussels’ cooking water. You will smell the aroma throughout the house!!
Along with the stuffed mussels, we usually also prepare Spezzina-style mussels (if you’re from Liguria, you know them) or the peppered mussels which I particularly love, or even the mussel stew, a real delicacy.
If your menu is all fish-based, you can also prepare spaghetti with mussels or paccheri in mussel stew. You’ll see how impressive these dishes will look.
Let’s find out how to prepare the stuffed baked mussels right after the photo as always 🎄

- 1.76 oz Grana Padano DOP

Stuffed Baked Mussels Preparation
To prepare the stuffed baked mussels, start by cleaning the mussels with a scouring pad to remove shell impurities and eliminate the attached filaments using a sharp knife.
Place them in a large pan with 1 tablespoon of oil and white wine, cover with the lid, and let them open for a few minutes.
Once all the mussels have opened, remove the empty shells and place the shells with mussels on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs, Grana Padano, chopped anchovies, parsley, and capers. Add the 3 tablespoons of oil and mix. As you mix, add some mussels’ cooking water without adding too much; it should be a soft but not liquid mixture.
Using a spoon, cover each mussel with some filling, pressing down well. Once all are filled, drizzle with a little extra virgin olive oil.
Bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown, remove from the oven, and serve the stuffed baked mussels immediately, and…
