FRIED MORTADELLA WITHOUT EGGS

The Fried Mortadella without Eggs is a very simple and quick appetizer, with only 3 ingredients and a few minutes, you will have a snack to eat either hot or at room temperature, perfect for buffets and aperitifs.

Actually, I called it Fried Mortadella but it’s not really fried; we just sautéed it to make it sweat and then added some breadcrumbs (if you want even more flavor, you can season it with herbs).

Alternatively, you can also bake it in the oven or use a fryer, but the time will definitely be longer than sautéing, so try it and you’ll see it’s very appreciated.

Anyway, if you have a fryer, you can read my simple recipes to prepare them yourself.

Below, I leave you other interesting ideas for buffets and aperitifs, and then let’s go immediately below the photo as always to discover how to prepare Fried Mortadella without Eggs.

  • 3.5 oz breadcrumbs (indicative weight)

How to Prepare Fried Mortadella without Eggs

  • Cut the slice of mortadella into pieces about 1/2 inch per side, squeeze the lemon and strain the juice.

  • Place the mortadella pieces in a bowl and drizzle them with the lemon juice, letting them rest for at least 15 minutes.

Then heat a non-stick pan very well and add the mortadella along with the remaining lemon juice from the bowl.

  • Sauté the mortadella over medium heat for 4 or 5 minutes, then sprinkle generously with breadcrumbs.

Toss the mortadella so that it gets coated with breadcrumbs on all sides.

  • Continue cooking over medium heat for another 6/7 minutes until the breadcrumbs are golden and the mortadella is dry, with no lemon or fat residues in the pan.

You can consume it immediately or let it cool down a bit.

Storage, Tips, and Variations

The fried mortadella without eggs can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 days and is also delicious at room temperature.

Fried Mortadella without Eggs

You can season the breadcrumbs with fresh or dried herbs of your choice, finely chopped.

If you want, you can cook the mortadella in an air fryer for at least 15 minutes at 392°F, turning the cubes halfway through cooking; use special parchment paper to avoid getting breadcrumbs all over the basket.

Obviously, if you want an extra crispy crust, you can dip the mortadella in 1 beaten egg and then in breadcrumbs, making sure it adheres well before cooking it in a pan or fryer.
