HERB-FLAVORED SALT gift idea

HERB-FLAVORED SALT, the one I propose today, is not a recipe, it’s a method to season our daily dishes using less salt and more spices, especially now that the heat starts, feet and hands swell, eating too much salt is not good for our health, so one of the methods is to season foods, whether raw or cooked, with herb-flavored salt, in an easy and fast way you can make it at home, without spending extra money to buy commercial products, which are usually expensive and we don’t know what they contain besides salt and spices.

herb-flavored salt
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very cheap
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 1 kg
  • Cooking methods: No cooking
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients Herb-Flavored Salt

  • 2.2 lbs Coarse Salt
  • 1 tbsp Thyme
  • 1 tbsp Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Rosemary
  • 1 tbsp Parsley
  • 1 clove Garlic ((if desired))
  • 1 Chili Pepper ((if desired))

Preparation

  • Preparing herb-flavored salt is very easy and quick; there are 2 different methods, you can choose the one that suits you or both.

So you will always have excellent herb-flavored salt with the herbs you like best, those I used are the ones I have in the garden, if you have more or different ones, feel free to use them, the more you let your imagination run wild, the better your dishes will be.

  • First, wash and dry your herbs thoroughly.
If you want to make a mix, you can do that, if you want to make special salt with just one aromatic herb, go ahead, it’s very useful.

  • When your herbs are well dried, chop them coarsely then take the salt, even part of it, you don’t need to make all 1 kg the same, mix with the herbs.

  • On a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or kitchen paper, spread the salt to form a layer.
Then cover with kitchen paper, or parchment paper and let it dry in a dark and cool place away from dust and drafts for at least 2 days so, the salt absorbs the moisture present in the aromatic herbs and dries them naturally.

  • After the time has passed, you will have coarse salt with aromatic herbs that have lost their water, so you can put it as it is in washed and sterilized glass jars, and store it in the pantry.

  • Or, you can put a small amount in a grinder to bring to the table or season your dishes directly from there, or you can blend your coarse salt with a food processor or still with a mortar, and turn it into fine salt.

  • I made jars like the one you see in the photo, with coarse salt and a mix of herbs, using 1 kg.
Then I made some jars with salt and dried red chili pepper, then I made fine salt, mixing parsley and garlic, and you can use your imagination to make your personalized salt.

  • As a gift idea, this solution is excellent, putting them in glass bottles with colored ribbons and cork stoppers, you’ll make a great impression with your friends then.
    ENJOY YOUR MEAL

Notes

Herb-flavored salt is excellent for precisely reducing the use of salt in cooking and adding herbs, you can make several variations with just one spice or with garlic or without.
It keeps well in a glass jar or tin can in the pantry for a long time.
