How to Make Barbecue Sauce – Ingredients
- 1 cup ketchup (or tomato passata)
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Steps
In a saucepan, combine all ingredients except for the honey, then mix with a whisk.
Place the saucepan on the stove and cook over a fairly low flame for 5/6 minutes.
Add the honey and continue to blend it over the heat with the whisk.
Cook the BBQ Sauce for 15 minutes, you will see that as it cooks, it will become thick.
Once cooking is finished, transfer it to a glass jar with an airtight seal, then seal and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Storage, Tips, and Variations
The BBQ Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for several months.
Instead of Ketchup, you can use tomato passata, cooking it with a sauté of onion and garlic for at least 15 minutes before adding the other ingredients.
If you want to use the BBQ Sauce for marinating meat, use 1/4 cup more water to make it less dense.
