Making jams and preserves at home has always been passed down from grandma to mom and from mom to daughter; in our house, we have always made it with fresh seasonal fruit.

You can simply spread it on bread, use it to fill tarts or pies, and pair it with chocolate, for example, as in this case, and instead of using kiwi slices, add the jam.

Kiwi Jam
  • Difficulty: Very easy

  • Rest time: 30 Minutes
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 1.65 lbs
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Spring, Summer

Kiwi Jam Ingredients

  • 2.2 lbs kiwi (already peeled)
  • 14.11 oz sugar
  • 1 apple (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated (optional))
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Kiwi Jam Preparation

  • To prepare the kiwi jam, start by peeling them, weighing them already peeled, and cutting them into small pieces.

Also cut the apple into small pieces without peeling it.

Adding apple to the jam has a specific purpose: to use less sugar while still obtaining a jam with the right consistency, sweet but without unnecessary sugar.

  • Place the kiwis and the apple in a pot along with the sugar, mix, and leave for about 30 minutes so the sugar dissolves.

  • Then add the juice of 1/2 lemon and the teaspoon of grated ginger, which gives a slightly spicy note, and turn on the heat.

Once it starts to boil, begin stirring occasionally, lowering the heat to a minimum.

  • After about 40 minutes of cooking your kiwi jam over low heat, blend part of the pulp in the pot.

This way, you will have some kiwi pieces and some creaminess, which will bind everything together.

  • Then take a teaspoon of kiwi jam and let it fall onto a saucer and place it in the fridge for a few minutes. Taking it out of the fridge and turning the saucer over, the jam should barely slide, indicating it is ready.

  • Then turn off the heat, fill your jars that you have previously sterilized in the oven.

Close them well and turn them upside down on the work surface, leaving them like that until they are completely cool.

When you turn them upright once cool, the jar lids will have vacuum-sealed and are ready to store in the pantry.

How to Store Kiwi Jam
