An easy, tasty, and original recipe for Spiced Christmas Cookies, perfect for gifting, hanging on our Christmas tree, and especially for making with our kids.
The spice mix we used is composed of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, and my advice is also to make one batch of this shortcrust and half a batch of cocoa shortcrust, so you can make a mix of cookies and (as we did) combine the 2 doughs and cut out cookies with the 2 colors.
You’ll impress everyone with these Spiced Christmas Cookies, cutting them into shapes you like best, be they trees 🎄, gingerbread men, stars 🎇, or snowmen, and if you plan to hang them on the tree, remember to make a little hole in the top of each cookie before baking so you can pass a colored ribbon through.
Below are more Christmas Cookie recipes, and then, as always, right under the photo, we’ll discover how to make the Spiced Christmas Cookies.

- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg (large)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg

- 1/4 tsp ground cloves (finely)
Tools

- 1 Electric mixer
- Cookie cutters
- 1 Baking tray
How to make Spiced Christmas Cookies
If you don’t have brown sugar, use all granulated sugar, the cookies will be finer in texture and not so coarse.
Place the butter in pieces and the sugars in a bowl and use the electric mixer to incorporate them well.
Add the egg and yolk and mix until almost creamy.
Add the flour with a spoon and then the spices and salt. Once mixed, turn the dough out onto the work surface.
Work quickly to form a smooth and fairly compact dough, wrap it in plastic wrap, and put it to rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
After the resting time, preheat the oven to 340°F in static mode, line the baking tray with parchment paper, then roll out the dough to about 1/5 inch thick.
Using the cutters, cut out the spiced Christmas cookies, then re-roll the scraps and cut out more cookies.
At this point, you can combine both the spiced and cocoa or almond shortcrust to have two-toned striped cookies.
Gently place the cookies on the parchment and bake on the middle rack for 15 minutes.
Check the degree of doneness as every oven is different, and remember to make the hole at the top before baking if you want to hang them.
