Ingredients for the Sweet and Sour Pork Easy Chinese Recipe
- 1.5 lbs pork collar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2/3 cup white wine vinegar
- 2/3 cup soy sauce
- 3 red bell peppers (large)
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 oz fresh ginger (grated)
- 4 tbsps vegetable oil
- to taste sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup sugar (also brown sugar)
Steps
We chose to use pork collar, but pork crusts or loin chunks are also great. There are many recipes where they add pineapple slices along with the peppers and use tomato in the sweet and sour sauce.
Using a whisk, mix the cornstarch and 100 ml of soy sauce, once the cornstarch has dissolved, add the pork collar slices.
Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, ideally 1 or 2 hours.
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet, add the meat, and brown it on medium-high heat for at least 3 minutes on each side.
Meanwhile, clean the peppers and cut them into slices, grate the fresh ginger, and squeeze the garlic.
Remove the meat from the skillet and set it aside on a plate. In the same skillet, fry with 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, the ginger, and garlic for a few minutes, add the pepper slices.
Cook them for 10 minutes until they are tender but still intact.
Add the meat slices to the skillet with the peppers and continue cooking.
Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix the sugar with the wine vinegar and the remaining soy sauce.
Add the sweet and sour mixture to the skillet with the peppers and meat, and finish cooking over high heat for another 10/15 minutes (all depends on how large the pieces are).
Once cooking is complete, serve by pouring over the cooking juices and sprinkling everything with sesame seeds.
