Ingredients for White Turnips Trentino Style
- 1.5 lbs turnips (white)
- 5.3 oz smoked bacon
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 2 pinches salt
- to taste black pepper
Preparation of White Turnips Trentino Style
To prepare the Turnips Trentino Style, first wash the turnips and cut off the green tops if present.
Peel them gently with a potato peeler, white turnips are very tender so slice them thinly.
In a high-edged pan, sauté the bacon with the extra virgin oil until it starts to become golden.
Add the sliced turnips and sugar, mix well to dissolve it and let the turnips turn golden for a few minutes.
After a few minutes, add 1/4 cup of water, salt, and pepper, and cook the turnips with the lid slightly open over low heat.
After 10 minutes, check by piercing the slices of turnips with a fork, if it penetrates easily, remove the lid and let the cooking liquid evaporate.
