Bavarian salad, a salad that brings me back to a trip I took in Bavaria, and the main ingredient, of course, could only be the potato. This is one of the many versions you can find because ‘different places, different recipes,’ much like many traditional Italian recipes. Another essential ingredient in this recipe is a typical local cheese, Bavaria blu, a mix between brie and gorgonzola, with a sweet yet intense flavor. The whole salad is then dressed with a mustard-based sauce, also widely used for various recipes in Germany.

- 2.8 oz dried plums (pitted)
- 4.2 oz Bavaria blu (sweet bergader)
- 0.5 oz sunflower seeds
- 2 tbsps olive oil
- 1.1 oz mustard
- 2 pinches fine salt

Preparation of Bavarian Salad
Cut the already boiled or steamed potatoes, cooled almost completely, into pieces about one and a half centimeters.
Then cut the dried plums into pieces as well.
Now start composing the salad on individual plates or one serving dish.
On the bottom, make a layer with the potato pieces, then randomly distribute the diced plums.
Cut the cheese into cubes and distribute it over the potatoes. Finally, sprinkle the sunflower seeds.
Now prepare the dressing.
In a coffee cup, mix the olive oil, mustard, and 2 pinches of salt.
Once mixed and well combined, pour the dressing over the salad.
And voilà… your Bavarian salad is ready to be enjoyed, perhaps accompanied by a nice beer.
Gesundheit und guten Appetit!
Cheers and enjoy your meal!
Useful Tips
For an even more robust flavor, add a tablespoon of white or apple cider vinegar to the dressing.
If you can’t find Bavaria Blu, opt for Bavarian emmental or another similar cheese.
