AGUA FRESCA

Agua fresca is like a slush with WATERMELON and lime juice to which you can add chocolate, either solid or melted using a double boiler or microwave.

Clearly, it cannot be defined as a recipe but a pleasant treat, especially for a cool afternoon break or a dessert.

Agua fresca is a typical street food from Central America and Mexico, and in simple terms, as I mentioned before, it’s a mixture of water and fruit with ice, and also with added sweetener.

Ingredients AGUA FRESCA RECIPE

  • 1 baby watermelon
  • 1 lime
  • 2.82 oz brown sugar (optional)
  • 2.12 oz chocolate chips (optional)
  • sprigs mint

Preparation AGUA FRESCA RECIPE

  • Slice the baby watermelon into slices and then into wedges, remove the rind and any seeds.

  • Blend the watermelon with the sugar (I didn’t add it) and the filtered juice using a fine mesh sieve. The result should be fine and homogeneous.

  • Put this smoothie in the freezer for about 20 minutes.

    When ready to serve, pour it into well-chilled glasses and garnish with mint leaves that have been washed and gently patted dry with appropriate paper.

  • If you want a more indulgent agua fresca, add chocolate sauce made by melting chocolate using a double boiler with a couple of tablespoons of water.

Tips and notes

We are in summer, or rather, a very hot summer, and it’s definitely the best time to make huge glasses of fruit-flavored water, to prepare slushies and everything that helps to cool our overheated bodies. It’s also the best season to make excellent centrifuges since we have plenty of fruit and vegetables to choose from at the supermarket.
