Apple Cookies for Fido

The recipe for apple cookies for FIDO the dog is a bit surprising on my blog also because, not having dogs, I had to study a little about animal nutrition.

OUR DOG’S NUTRITION AND HEALTH require adhering very scrupulously to a specific list of ingredients allowed in the animal’s diet , since some foods must be avoided completely because they are toxic and indigestible!
Let’s completely forget chocolate, nuts and grapes, but also onion, garlic, raw egg (but boiled egg is OK), raw potatoes, raw fish, avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggplants and all foods that are too salty or too sweet!
Go ahead with vegetables like carrots, spinach, peas, celery and green beans but also potatoes, oats, rice and pasta.
Most dogs are lactose intolerant and therefore it is necessary to use lactose-free foods or plant-based drinks; cereals can also be avoided, perhaps replaced by regular potatoes or sweet potatoes. This recipe was born almost as a summer bet made on the beach with my sisters, my brother-in-law and his sisters.

The apple cookies for Fido were born from a summer bet with sisters and brother-in-law. We were talking about the blog, how it goes, what recipes I make, and almost as a joke they suggested I diversify the target audience of my posts — maybe make baby food or food for dogs and cats!

Honestly I was a bit puzzled because I studied children in terms of psychology, behavior, progress, language acquisition and much more at university, and even though I had a child, I have no idea where I put the little recipes for first baby foods!

I also know from talking with other moms that the approach to weaning has changed a lot since it was done for my son Andrea, who is now grown up, and honestly I feel a bit out of place for a serious commitment on this topic!

Dogs? Cats?? But I said to myself, I could learn which ingredients are allowed and get to know this world of which I am completely ignorant, having for NOW only a bunch of stuffed dogs and cats!

The APPLE COOKIES FOR FIDO THE DOG are made with rice flour, grated apple, a little olive oil and an egg — very, very easy!
Baking is in the oven at 356°F for 10–15 minutes depending on the characteristics of your oven.
The apple is a fruit that hydrates, with many vitamins and minerals and is excellent for the digestive system, so…. the apple cookies for FIDO the dog are perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can also make them with pear pulp and oat flour for a pear-apple version!

FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE RECIPE APPLE COOKIES FOR FIDO the dog

  • I beat the egg with the small amount of olive oil indicated above using a fork.

  • I wash and peel the apple and grate it finely, then add it to the mixture I just made.

  • I now add the rice flour little by little, always stirring, until I get a non-sticky dough which I then roll out between two sheets of parchment paper.

Among the many cookie cutters I had I used these stamps and made the little cookies, taking care to dust the cutters with rice flour as I went along to help release the shapes more easily later…

  • I place them on the oven tray lined with parchment paper and bake for 10–15 minutes at 356°F (conventional oven).

  • When they are ready and well cooled we can offer them to our FIDO!
