Baked Ziti with Meatballs

Baked ziti with meatballs is that classic first course that when you see it… you want to taste it!

Ziti is a particular long and hollow pasta shape that is generally broken before being cooked for various preparations.

I, following and modifying a recipe seen on Cucina No Problem, left them whole and cooked them with a good tomato sauce and lots of mixed meatballs(pork, beef, and mortadella) and I must say the dish is incredibly delicious and appetizing!

With ziti you can make fantastic timbales with classic condiments like ragù but also with mushrooms and a flowing béchamel with cheeses, in short, you can really explore taste and flavor!

LITTLE SECRET TO PREVENT HARD-BOILED EGGS FROM CRACKING… add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the boiling water!

Preparation RECIPE BAKED ZITI WITH MEATBALLS

  • In a bowl, mix the ground pork with the ground beef and the fine chop of mortadella.
Add the bread crumbs soaked with a little milk.
Add the raw egg and some grana, just enough to make meatballs of uniform size (at least we try, ha ha).

  • Grease a non-stick skillet with a little vegetable oil and brown the mixed meatballs until they are golden and cooked.

Add the tomato passata and let it simmer for a few minutes, adjusting with salt.

  • Place a large pot of salted water on the stove and once it boils, drop in the ziti, trying not to break them.
Stir them and cook them for the time indicated on the package.
Drain them al dente and spread them on a sheet of parchment paper.

  • Take the baking dish that needs to contain the ziti lengthwise without having to bend them.
Grease it with a little oil and make a first layer of boiled ziti.

  • Pour some of the sauce with the meatballs.

Place here and there some slices of hard-boiled eggs, a few tablespoons of grated grana, and a few cubes of scamorza.

  • Continue to make layers, finishing with the sauce with meatballs, grana, scamorza, and hard-boiled eggs.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 40 minutes or depending on your oven.

  • Remove the baking dish of baked ziti with meatballs, add a few fresh basil leaves, and serve at the table!

A rich dish complete, very fragrant, and so appetizing…

  • Enjoy your meal with baked ziti with meatballs!
