This Berliner brot tastes like Christmas with cinnamon, cloves, and my personal touch, a pinch of nutmeg, and lots of good dried fruits like almonds and hazelnuts!
These are treats to be eaten at breakfast with jam, with afternoon tea; in short, they are definitely not to be served with steak and fried eggs at dinner, that’s for sure!
In the recipe for Berliner brot bars, there is not a gram of butter or even oil, just the good fats of the dried fruits, and just slightly spiced, they are very pleasant!
For my lifestyle, I would say I am very sparing with the addition of spices and heat, but if you prefer, you can adjust the quantities of cinnamon and cloves to your liking!
The sweet bread Berliner brot made by me might be too thick and I should have baked it in a larger pan, but I assure you it is very soft, so I enjoyed it anyway… Andrea, the slightly stressful teenage son, didn’t even want to taste it because he doesn’t really like these Christmas aromas… Well, we’ll have to live with that, what do you say eh eh!!
The recipe called for a little cream, but I preferred to add milk because the amount of cream was so minimal it wasn’t worth it…
The preparation of Berliner brot is very simple because after coarsely chopping the dried fruits, you put all the powders in a bowl, add the chopped hazelnuts and almonds, add the eggs and milk, give it a good stir with a spoon, and we’re already ready for baking!
I put a classic glaze of water and powdered sugar on top, but if you prefer, just use powdered sugar…
I also suggest a bread where there is tea in the dough

FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE BERLINER BROT RECIPE
For the Berliner brot, first coarsely chop the hazelnuts and almonds.
I had hazelnuts with skin and peeled almonds in the pantry, so I used these products.
I preferred to chop them using a knife rather than a mixer, but feel free to do whatever is more convenient for you as always ^_^!!
In a bowl, put the sifted all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sifted cocoa, then add the chopped dried fruits.
I almost forgot… Berliner brot is not very sweet since I used unsweetened cocoa; if you prefer it a bit sweeter, use sweetened cocoa powder!
Mix with a spoon, then add the eggs and milk, mixing the Berliner brot batter well.
Spread the batter in a baking pan lined with parchment paper, leveling it well.
Now we just need to bake it in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 25 minutes, and remember to always do the toothpick test before turning off the oven!
Once baked, let it cool completely, and in the meantime, prepare the simple glaze to decorate the Berliner bread with hazelnuts and almonds!
Put the powdered sugar in a container and add 1 to 1 1/2 tablespoons of water, stirring vigorously with a utensil.
Put the glaze into a piping bag and draw diamond-shaped lines across the cake.
Then, cut it into squares and serve it with tea or coffee…
Enjoy your meal!
