The recipe for the broccoli and sausage casserole I got by modifying a preparation seen on Alice, which however, like for the parmigiana, fried them by breading well, the broccoli florets and then proceeding to make layers in the baking dish.
The idea of frying with batter slices of this delicious vegetable didn’t appeal to me at all, so I made a healthier yet very appetizing casserole with sausage mozzarella and a generous sprinkling of grated Parmigiano Reggiano!
This appetizing gratin is a complete dish to pair with, if you really are hungry, a slice of cheese, maybe a hard-boiled egg, a nice fruit to complete the meal…

- 1 lbs broccoli
- 1.1 lbs sausage
- 2 mozzarellas
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1.1 lbs Tomato sauce (for me Petti or Mutti)
- to taste Parmigiano Reggiano (grated)
- to taste salt and pepper
- to taste Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation RECIPE BROCCOLI AND SAUSAGE CASSEROLE
First, prepare the tomato sauce, placing the garlic cloves, a little extra virgin olive oil, and the tomato sauce in a casserole.
Cook over moderate heat for 15/20 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
Clean the broccoli, keeping the best florets and then washing them under running water.
Boil them for about ten minutes and drain until al dente.
In a non-stick pan, brown the sausage roughly crumbled without adding any fat.
Once cooked, we can start to assemble the broccoli and sausage gratin.
In the baking dish, place a few tablespoons of tomato sauce.
Now cover the entire base of the dish with a layer of boiled broccoli florets.
Now sprinkle the layer of vegetables with sausage and tomato sauce and mozzarella slices (or another cheese like provola, Galbanino, etc.).
Finish with a generous sprinkling of grated cheese and continue to make layers until the prepared ingredients are used up.
Now place the preparation in a preheated oven at 356°F for about 15 minutes and then for another 5 minutes in grill mode to brown the surface of the dish. Once cooked, serve this simple and seasonal broccoli and sausage casserole!
