Christmas Angel Placeholders …or rather big-headed, very big-headed angel placeholders ha ha!
Yes ok I know I could have done them better, I could have made heads not of 33 grams of sugar paste but of 28 but sorry since I’m not too good but I REALLY wanted to put this idea on the blog, I went ahead with the creation, photos, and publication of the decorated cones with royal icing and with buttery cookies wings and here are these big heads made with the ice cream cone!
I made some pseudo wings with shortcrust pastry using the ready-made roll and a cookie cutter then I prepared a little glaze with icing sugar and by playing around with a pastry bag, this masterpiece came out that a primary school kid would do better ha ha!
On the blog, there aren’t placeholders worthy of this name since here I deal with or rather my passion is cooking but thinking about Christmas we can also make them with THE
or make this one below done a long time ago at the beginning of this cooking blog of mine!
The ice cream cones I used, I personally bought them at the ice cream parlor where I often go for breakfast because unfortunately I couldn’t find them at the supermarket!
The ice cream cones we can “glue” them always with the icing sugar on round cookies and put them in every place at the table for our guests!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Rest time: 1 Hour
- Portions: as desired
- Cooking methods: No Cooking
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Winter
Ingredients
- 1 ice cream cone
- 33 g sugar paste (white for the little head)
- 3 sugar decorations (heart-shaped)
- 2 tablespoons icing sugar (heaped)
- 5 drops lemon juice (or water …maybe a LITTLE MORE IS NEEDED DON'T MAKE THE ICING TOO HARD OR TOO RUNNY)
- 1 teaspoon sugar sprinkles
- 1 roll shortcrust pastry (which will clearly be used to make MANY ANGEL WINGS PLACEHOLDERS)
Tools
#ADV
- parchment paper
- Baking Sheets
Steps
1) For these little objects, I prepare the cookies using cookie cutters or making homemade templates or using a glass.
2) I arrange the cookie wings on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for a few minutes, about 7/8, or depending on your appliance’s characteristics.
3) In the meantime, I prepare the icing by putting icing sugar in a small container, even a glass is fine, and adding the lemon juice or water little by little, mixing vigorously to create the sweet glaze.
4) Once the placeholder angel wings for Christmas are cooled, I cover them completely with the icing and let them solidify for about 30 minutes.
5) Meanwhile, I can make “the buttons” and the bottom of the cone by covering with icing or creating a personal decoration and gradually sprinkling with colorful sugar decorations. I glue the wings with the royal icing to the “body” of the Christmas placeholder angel.
6) I make balls of sugar paste, trying to smooth them nicely, better than mine anyway, and in one part, I make a hole with a skewer to facilitate insertion into the tip of the ice cream cone to make the head.
7) Well, I stop here because it’s easier to do by looking at the photo than to write down every single step in detail…
Merry Christmas and happy crafting with these homemade and edible placeholders!
