Looking at the photo you might wonder…Christmas Spiced Sweet Spoons okay, but Annalisa, where are the spices??????? I promise the spices (ginger, cinnamon powder, and nutmeg) are there, but I’m always afraid of overdoing it and making the cookie dough too aromatic, so I always hold back a bit!!
THESE cookies with spiced shortcrust pastry are a cute and easy idea for a simple dessert that we can prepare in advance and decorate with creams just before serving this little homemade pastry.

Ingredients
- 1.6 oz butter (cold)
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.7 oz granulated sugar
- 0.7 oz brown sugar
- 1 pinch baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 egg (small)
- 1.4 oz maple syrup (or molasses)
- as needed mascarpone
- as needed sugar
- as needed chocolate sprinkles
- as needed sugar sprinkles
Tools
- Food Processor
- Stand Mixers
- Food Wraps
- Baking Pans
Steps
1) In the food processor or stand mixer, combine the cold butter with the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, and spices to taste.
2) Start the blades, and when the ingredients become a sandy mix, add the egg and maple syrup, mixing very quickly.
3) Form a dough ball, wrap it in food wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.
4) Then roll out the dough and trace the outline of the cookie with a teaspoon.
5) Arrange each spiced shortcrust spoon on a non-stick baking sheet or a parchment-lined tray and bake in a preheated oven at 340°F for about 12/15 minutes.
6) Let them cool and meanwhile prepare the mascarpone cream by adding a little sugar and dividing the obtained mix into two.
7) To one half, add a little cocoa, to the other, add vanilla extract.
8) Decorate the Christmas spiced spoons with a nice dollop of the two creams, then decorate with colorful and chocolate sprinkles.

Decorate as you like, have fun with candied fruit, nuts, cream, ganache, creams etc. etc. Sorry, I used some mascarpone leftover from a previous sweet recipe and didn’t want to risk having to throw it away! IMPORTANT to make thick fillings, otherwise they’ll run off the cookie, eh eh!
