This is not a recipe for confetti pinwheels where the pinwheels are rolls of crustless white sandwich bread and the confetti are colored sugar sprinkles!
A fun idea for the little ones at home for a Carnival party that’s very simple and delicious, which we can vary by replacing the hazelnut cream with chocolate cream, white chocolate, jam, custard, mascarpone cream… In short, fill the confetti pinwheels however you like!
If you’re good, make multiple trays of pinwheels so you can please all your friends and guests!
This leap year 2024 sees CARNIVAL starting on January 28th and ending on February 13th with Fat Tuesday, which is called so because it precedes the 40 days of abstinence from meat consumption known as Lent.
The intermediate appointments during Carnival include Thursday, February 8th (Fat Thursday) and Sunday, February 11th (the actual Carnival Sunday).
Valentine’s Day on February 14th will also be Ash Wednesday, the day when Lent truly begins, which is the 40 days leading up to Easter.
Carnival is a movable feast in the sense that every year the date changes like the Easter holiday.
During Carnival, we fry fritters, castagnole, and sweet tagliatelle made from sweetened fresh pasta and much, much more, and each Italian region has many variations of these sweets.
On that note, here are some typical recipes of the period like:

#ADV
- Parchment paper
- Rolling pins
- Knives
- Brushes
- Food wraps
FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE CONFETTI PINWHEELS RECIPE
First, you need to flatten the slices of bread without crust by placing each slice between two sheets of parchment paper and using the rolling pin.
Now, spread a generous amount of hazelnut spread or whatever you like, making sure it goes beyond the edges of the bread slice.
Very gently, roll up the bread slices, then wrap them tightly in transparent food wrap and place each roll in the freezer for 15/20 minutes to firm up.
After the resting time, take the confetti pinwheels or sugared pinwheels, remove the food wrap and cut into regular slices.
Then, wet the edges with honey and roll each pinwheel in colored sprinkles to cover the entire circumference.
Place each confetti pinwheel on the serving plate and bring it to the table immediately.
Enjoy your meal! Annalisa
