Eton Mess with Strawberries, easy English no-bake dessert

in ,

Eton mess is a delicious and very easy traditional no-bake English dessert with a distinguished name linked to the famous Eton college where it is believed to have been invented, combined with the term mess which means “muddle” or disorder… and indeed the dessert is a scrumptious mixture of goodness!

Among the many countless versions about its origins, it is said that while the annual cricket match was underway at Eton a lively Labrador knocked over a picnic basket that contained a white Pavlova, which instantly crumbled but was nonetheless offered to the guests who found the MERINGUE of the pavlova with the fruit delightful!

In short, the Eton mess is a mix of strawberries, whipped cream and meringue, although there are variations with other fruits; for example a similar dessert is the Lancing mess, made with bananas, and others such as an exotic version with pineapple and mango! (Personally, I always recommend using juicy fruits, not firm ones like apples!).
If you want to make the meringues, follow the classic recipe or you can also try the egg-free vegan version using aquafaba!
