Rustic Greek Salad

Fresh and tasty rustic Greek salad with peppers, tomatoes, onion, feta, and Kalamata olives that sneaked underneath (damn them and me for noticing only after the photo was taken) is the classic recipe we all tried when visiting Greece!

It’s tasty and very appetizing and we can accompany it with grilled meats which perhaps with the beautiful season that will come we will make with friends and family.

Personally, I make it as I wrote and as I did when I worked with my friends in their pubs and Greek cuisine restaurants but… I’ve also seen Greek salads with the addition of lettuce-like salad and more, so vary it if you want to try other ingredients.

But make sure not to miss tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, olives, and feta, a fantastic Greek cheese made from goat and sheep milk.

Besides dried oregano, we can also add dill, which I clearly didn’t find, haha!

The Greek salad is perfect as a single dish, summer or not, but also as a great accompaniment to a rich side dish of grilled fish or meat!

Ingredients RUSTIC GREEK SALAD RECIPE

  • 1 dash red wine vinegar (optional)
  • as needed cucumbers
  • as needed tomatoes
  • as needed red onion
  • as needed sweet peppers
  • as needed feta
  • as needed dried oregano
  • as needed Greek black olives (kalamata)
  • as needed extra virgin olive oil
  • as needed salt

FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE RUSTIC GREEK SALAD RECIPE

  • I wash the peppers and remove the seeds and internal filaments, peel the onion, remove the cucumber skin and wash the tomatoes.

  • I cut the cucumbers into pieces, the tomatoes into wedges if small or into slices if larger, and the red onion into rings.

  • I take the feta package, extract it, dry it a bit from the liquid formed in the packaging bag, and cut it into cubes.

  • I put in a large bowl the pepper strips, the onion slices, the tomato wedges, the cucumber pieces, and the feta cubes.

    I add the Greek black olives, the dried oregano, and season with extra virgin olive oil, a dash of vinegar if you like, and adjust the taste with salt and pepper (optional).

    I mix well and let the ingredients blend beautifully together and finish preparing the individual portions.

    The rustic Greek salad is good in all seasons…
