A classic salad becomes a savory pie, a rustic pie with tuna, potatoes, and onion that’s super tasty and definitely inviting, which was dinner at home yesterday.
How to prepare the savory pie with tuna? I had a package of puff pastry in the fridge, but if you have shortcrust pastry, feel free to use it or make it with your own hands if you have time and desire, and on that note, I’ll leave you with
SHORTCRUST PASTRY
but also crazy dough
CRAZY DOUGH
WHOLE WHEAT CRAZY DOUGH
These doughs like shortcrust and crazy dough, require different baking times, so keep an eye on the oven because they brown faster!
This is a savory pie with appetizing, flavorful potatoes and definitely inviting: my only mistake was that I added too little onion, and I encourage you to use a whole medium onion instead of half, as I did, but as always, increase the amounts to your liking!
How to vary the savory pie with onions?
To these ingredients (tuna, potatoes, and onion) we can add:
– Black Olives;
– Sun-Dried Tomatoes in Oil;
– Capers or Caper Berries;
– Small Pieces of Anchovies in Oil;
– other types of oil-preserved vegetables like Artichokes ….
and much more!!!

FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE RUSTIC PIE WITH TUNA, POTATOES, AND ONION RECIPE
For the rustic pie with tuna, potatoes, and onion first wash and peel the tubers (wow, how fancy I am this morning) and boil them for about 20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes well and once the temperature is right, cut them into cubes neither too small nor too chunky.
Then let’s move on to prepare the savory tuna pie!
Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and place the puff pastry in our baking pan, keeping the package’s protective paper.
In a bowl, put the boiled potato cubes, well-drained tuna in oil, and peeled red onion cut into thin slices, half or whole depending on your personal taste.
Season with salt and pepper, add a drizzle of oil (we already have the tuna, so don’t overdo it), and then fill the puff pastry shell, arranging the filling evenly.
Now just bake it for about 40 minutes or according to your oven’s characteristics.
Once cooked, the rustic pie with red onions and tuna in oil take it out of the oven and let it cool.
The savory pie is easy to prepare and irresistible to taste!
Cut it into wedges and serve it at the table, and you’ll see that after the first bite, it will win over all your diners!
Bon appétit and happy cooking!
