Sun Pie for Appetizer

The recipe for the Sun Pie for appetizer is as seen and re-seen on the web both for the ease and speed with which it can be made using ready-made puff pastry and because we can prepare this sunflower with puff pastry with countless different fillings and, if needed, we can even prepare it in a sweet version using Nutella or another chocolate cream of your choice!

I prepared the recipe for the sunflower puff pastry with tomato sauce, speck, and cow’s milk mozzarella and served it with a delicious strawberry mojito or with the Rossini cocktail!

HOW CAN WE FILL THE QUICK SUNFLOWER PIE WITH PUFF PASTRY?

1) Boiled spinach with ricotta and Parmesan;

2) Classic pizzaiola with tomato, basil, and mozzarella sauce;

3) Melting cheeses like mozzarella, scamorza, provola;

4) Diced vegetables sautéed in a pan and cheese like American cheese or other melting types;

5) Cherry tomatoes mixed with a few tablespoons of Genovese pesto and grated Parmesan

6) We can also use other types of pesto like rocket pesto, walnut sauce, red pesto etc.

7) Smoked salmon strips and creamy cheese like Exquisa, Philadelphia, etc.

8) Pepper caviar…very, very good!

Ingredients for the Sun Pie for Appetizer Recipe

  • 2 packages puff pastry
  • 5 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 mozzarella
  • 2.8 oz speck (in strips)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste dried oregano
  • to taste salt

Steps

  • 1) I spread the first roll of puff pastry on the baking sheet

    2) I place in the center, leaving a space of a few inches at the edges, the coarsely chopped mozzarella and the speck strips

  • 3) At this point, I overlap the second roll of puff pastry and with the tines of the fork, I seal perfectly the circumference of the stuffed and quick-to-make Sun Pie and place a glass or any round tool, even a pastry cutter, use what is more convenient for you!

  • 4) I brush the puff pastry ready for the Sun Pie with beaten egg and sprinkle it with a few pinches of dried oregano.

  • 5) With a sharp knife, I make many cuts as in the photo and then twist each slice trying to keep the filling of the sunflower savory pie for the appetizer well contained.

    6) Now, just bake this simple, quick, appetizing and make with countless fillings savory pie at 356°F baking in static mode for about 30 minutes or depending on the characteristics of your appliance.
