Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 8 teaspoons apricot jam
  • 2 apples
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing pastry)
  • as needed powdered sugar (for dusting)

Tools

  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper

Steps

  • Unroll the ready-made puff pastry and place it on the table. Cut it into 8 pieces of approximately 3.5×4.5 inches each (4 columns and 2 rows of the rectangle) using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Prick each one in the center with a fork.

  • Peel the apples, remove the core, and cut them into slices about 1/3 inch thick. Place the puff pastry rectangles on a baking tray with parchment paper, slightly spaced apart. Spread a teaspoon of apricot jam in the center of each rectangle, leaving the outer edges free. Arrange the apple slices slightly overlapping on top.

  • Bake in a preheated static oven at 350°F/365°F for about 18/20 minutes. If necessary, move the turnovers to the top rack for the last 3 minutes of baking to make them golden brown. Remove from the oven, let cool, and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

NOTES AND VARIATIONS

APPLES use medium-sized apples to fit perfectly within the pastry rectangle. Preferably choose crispy apple varieties, such as GOLDEN or Granny Smith.

If you prefer, you can add a pinch of cinnamon on the apple slices before baking.

STORAGE

Like all puff pastry desserts, once the Apple Turnovers are ready, they are susceptible to moisture because it tends to make the base soggy. They should be eaten the same day. If you have leftovers, store them for a maximum of 2 days in an airtight container.
