NUTS IN HONEY naturally or to enrich desserts, ice cream or yogurt

NUTS IN HONEY
A humble recipe from the peasant tradition when simple and genuine preparations could be made with little: NUTS WITH HONEY.
Looking at a jar full of nuts and honey takes me back to my childhood when I would always find one at my grandmother’s house, perhaps hidden behind others, and I would light up immediately.
It was my afternoon snack, I loved dipping my fingers into that crunchy and sweet mix, a certainty, yet always different depending on the mix of nuts my grandmother put inside. Sticky fingers after finishing them and heaven forbid washing them… the pleasure would end too soon: I would lick them to the last drop of Honey!
It’s incredible how two humble ingredients like Honey and Nuts can together create such a satisfying sweet snack!
Why will you love the Nuts in Honey? Because it’s easy and quick to prepare, you only need two ingredients, it’s an extremely versatile product with a thousand different uses in the kitchen, it’s relatively low cost compared to the ready-made jars sold in stores (they can reach up to 12.50 Euros for 250 g!), it can also be used as a sweet Christmas gift, but most of all, it’s delicious.
To prepare the Nuts and Honey you can choose any type of nuts: almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, cashews, or even a mix of your favorites. The same goes for honey, whether it’s Acacia, Wildflower, or any other honey, it doesn’t matter, the only advice I would give you is to choose honey with a delicate taste so as not to overpower the nuts too much.
Once the Honey with Nuts is ready, you can enjoy it as is, as I did as a child, or serve it to accompany a cheese platter, or use it for the preparation of pies, to garnish leavened cakes, as a topping for ice cream, Greek yogurt, or even pancakes.
Try the Nuts in Honey, an easy and quick recipe that will conquer everyone with its simplicity and guaranteed result.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, etc)
  • 1/2 cup honey (wildflower, acacia)

Tools

  • 1 Jar

Steps

  • First, select the nuts you want to use according to your taste. Once chosen, fill 2/3 of the jar (I used a jar with a capacity of 2 cups). You can create different layers for each type of nuts or mix them all together. The taste doesn’t change, only the visual aspect is different. I prefer to lightly toast certain types of nuts in the oven before putting them in the jar: peeled hazelnuts and almonds taste better, but I leave the choice to you.

  • Start pouring in the Honey (wildflower, acacia, or other) and wait a moment before adding more to give it time to “settle.” Then add the remaining honey so that all the nuts are well covered. Close with the lid and let rest for a few hours before eating it (letting it rest for a whole day would be even better). Store in a cool, dry place.
