Spanish Sangria ingredients recipe and tips
Surely one of the cocktails that symbolizes summer: thirst-quenching, refreshing and very aromatic — what am I talking about? Sangria!
A staple at our house when we want something cool and not too alcoholic.
As with all famous preparations, there are different versions: the traditional one is based on red wine, but there are also variants that use white wines or sparkling wine and a non-alcoholic version.
Simple to prepare at home, it will immediately bring a festive atmosphere.
Below are the ingredients and method for a sangria that I find good and balanced and, at the end of the recipe, many tips and possible variations on the theme.
If you are looking for how to prepare sangria at home easily and quickly, you are in the right place!!!
Spanish Sangria ingredients recipe and tips
- Difficulty: Very easy
- Cost: Budget-friendly
- Preparation time: 15 Minutes
- Portions: 2 LITERS (about 68 fl oz / 8 1/2 cups)
- Cuisine: Spanish
Ingredients
- red wine (1.5 liters (about 51 fl oz / 6 1/3 cups — roughly two 750 ml bottles))
- soda (carbonated beverage) (1/2 liter (about 17 fl oz / 2 1/8 cups))
- brandy (50 ml (about 1.7 fl oz))
- sugar (80 g (about 6 tbsp + 1 tsp, ~0.4 cup))
- oranges (2)
- peaches (2)
- lemons (2)
- apple (1)
- cloves (4 (whole))
- cinnamon sticks (3)
- vanilla (1 vanilla pod)
- as needed ice
Preparation
First of all wash the fruit, then cut the peaches and the apple into pieces while the oranges and lemon should be cut into thin slices.
If you use organic fruit you can leave the peel on; otherwise remove it.
Then add the sugar, the cinnamon, the cloves, the vanilla pod, the brandy and the red wine.
Let the mixture macerate in the refrigerator covered with plastic wrap for at least 7/8 hours, better if overnight.
After it has rested and before serving, add the soda or carbonated beverage, mix everything well and serve with plenty of ice.
TIPS
To obtain a less sweet sangria, you can add plain soda water instead of a sweet soda just before serving.
The fruit can be substituted according to your tastes or seasonality; the important thing is to use fruit that is not too ripe to avoid it falling apart once macerated in the wine.
NON-ALCOHOLIC SANGRIA
Ideal for those who cannot tolerate alcohol or simply do not like it. The alcoholic part is replaced by orange (or pineapple) juice flavored with the spices and, of course, without adding extra sugar.
Also important in this case is the maceration with the fruit.
WHITE SANGRIA
It is made by mixing prosecco (1.5 liters), vodka (50 ml) and soda (1/2 liter) with peaches, oranges, cinnamon and sugar. Mix all the ingredients together as for the red sangria and let them macerate for several hours before serving. (1.5 liters prosecco = about 51 fl oz/6 1/3 cups; vodka 50 ml = ~1.7 fl oz; soda 1/2 liter = ~17 fl oz).
WINTER SANGRIA
When summer fruit is not available you can use apples, pears and citrus fruits, or any fruit typical of the winter season. The result will still be excellent and distinctive.
