YOGURT AND DOUBLE CHOCOLATE OAT FLAKES

YOGURT AND DOUBLE CHOCOLATE OAT FLAKES PORRIDGE OVERNIGHT OATS
We’ve learned by now, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us the right boost and the necessary strength to face our daily tasks.
Today I present to you this recipe for an oatmeal, milk, and Greek yogurt breakfast, a sort of Porridge that is prepared in very little time, rich in energy and flavor, the OVERNIGHT OATS PORRIDGE with Greek Yogurt and Chocolate.
A nice cup of this dessert of Anglo-Saxon origin and we will be ready to face the challenges of the day, whether in the office, at school, at home doing chores, or, for those who can, touring towns and cities.
For those who don’t know, Overnight Porridge is a variation of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that does not require cooking, perfect for those with little time or who do not want to cook. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the refrigerator overnight, and upon waking, it’s ready to be enjoyed with your preferred topping.
An extremely easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored to taste with vanilla, and sweetened with honey. Once mixed, there is no need to cook it, just place it in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
You can also watch the video within the recipe to follow each step, although I assure you it is very easy, and I’m sure you won’t need it.
Once ready, you only have to choose whether to layer it with yogurt of your preferred flavor, spreads, and garnish it with your preferred topping because there are infinite delicious possibilities.
In today’s recipe for DOUBLE CHOCOLATE OVERNIGHT OATS, I created a first layer with the Porridge, a second made from Greek yogurt and Bitter Cocoa, and finished with a Topping of dark chocolate and a few drops of White Chocolate, for true Chocolate-addicts!
You will see how this simple breakfast will satisfy you without making you feel too heavy, for a long time, and you will reach lunch without that annoying hunger.
And if during the day you feel a craving or even in the evening after dinner you want to treat yourself to a dessert, this cup of OVERNIGHT OATS with yogurt, cocoa, and chocolate will be perfect.
What are you waiting for? Let’s start preparing it together!

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE YOGURT AND DOUBLE CHOCOLATE OAT FLAKES

  • 1/2 cup oat flakes
  • 1/2 cup water (or plant-based drink or cow's milk)
  • 1 tsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1/2 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup 0% fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp sweetener (or sugar)
  • 1.5 oz dark chocolate
  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil (or sunflower seed oil)
  • white chocolate chips (for decoration)

Tools

  • Bowl
  • 2 Cups

HOW TO MAKE YOGURT AND DOUBLE CHOCOLATE OAT FLAKES

  • In a bowl, mix the oat flakes, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or other plant-based drink) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single-serving cup and place in the fridge for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  • After resting and before consuming, finish the preparation. In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt with 1 tablespoon of sugar (I use sweetener) and the unsweetened cocoa until perfectly combined. Pour over the porridge and level with the back of a spoon

  • Melt 40 g of dark chocolate (or milk chocolate) in the microwave with ½ teaspoon of coconut oil (or sunflower seed oil) and pour it over the Cocoa Yogurt. Decorate with white chocolate chips. Place in the fridge to set for a couple of minutes. Enjoy your breakfast!

TIPS AND SUBSTITUTIONS

WATER To have an even creamier porridge, you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based drink (soy, almond, oat, rice).

HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener (for a light version) or even omit it.

VANILLA It’s amazing how a pinch of this essence can improve the taste of your Porridge, but if you don’t like this spice, you can omit it.

OVERNIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the fridge for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to blend and the oats to soften to achieve the perfect consistency.

YOGURT: For this recipe, I used 0% Greek Yogurt both for the preparation of the Porridge and for the second layer. Compared to classic yogurt, it is better because it is thicker and less watery.

TOPPING: In this recipe, I used dark chocolate, but milk or white chocolate will also work great, decide based on your taste. The same goes for the chocolate chips (I used white chocolate).

STORAGE

The Overnight Oats Porridge with Yogurt and Cocoa can (and should) be prepared the night before for the next day. Once ready, it keeps in the fridge closed in a container for up to 2 days.

FAQ (Questions and Answers)

  • What does overnight porridge mean?

Compared to preparing the classic oatmeal porridge, which is cooked in a saucepan with milk, this is prepared without cooking. It must just be made in advance, because the base mixture needs to rest overnight in the refrigerator (overnight in English means “for one night”).

  • Why eat porridge in the morning?

Porridge, a cereal-based preparation, typically oatmeal, slowly cooked in water or milk, is a food rich in fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates, which release energy gradually throughout the morning.

  • How can I achieve the right consistency of Oat Flakes?

To achieve the perfect consistency of the oats, it’s all about the oats/liquid ratio. In general, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a little more liquid; if they’re too runny, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water next time.

  • How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and toppings to Oat Flakes?

Overnight Oats in some combinations (e.g., with hazelnut or pistachio cream) may become too sweet. Keep this in mind when deciding how to layer it and perhaps taste a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

  • Can I heat my Overnight Oats Porridge or should it be eaten cold?

Overnight Oats Porridge is traditionally eaten cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer it warm, you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
