OVERNIGHT OATS APPLE AND CINNAMON
We’ve learned it by now: breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives us the right energy and strength to face the day’s tasks.
Today I present this recipe for a Breakfast of Oat Flakes, Milk, and Greek Yogurt, a kind of Porridge that is prepared in no time, rich in energy and flavor: the OVERNIGHT OATS with Apples flavored with Cinnamon.
A nice bowl of this dessert of Anglo-Saxon origins and we’ll be ready to face the day’s challenges, whether in the office, at school, at home for household chores or, for those who can afford it, as tourists in villages and cities.
For those who don’t know, the Overnight Porridge is a variant of the classic Anglo-Saxon recipe that doesn’t require cooking, perfect for those who have little time or don’t feel like cooking. It is prepared in advance, usually the night before, left in the fridge overnight and ready to be enjoyed with the topping of your choice in the morning.
An extremely easy recipe: the oat flakes are mixed with milk or water, Greek yogurt, flavored to taste with vanilla, and sweetened with honey. Once the mixture is combined, there will be no need to cook it; it should simply be placed in the fridge to rest for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
You can also watch the video within the recipe to follow each step, even though I assure you it’s really easy and I’m sure you won’t need it.
Once ready, you just have to choose whether to layer it or not with yogurt of your favorite flavor, spreadable creams, and garnish it with your preferred Topping because there are endless delicious possibilities.
In today’s recipe, I created a first layer with Porridge, a second with Apples cut into pieces flavored with Cinnamon, a third layer with Vanilla yogurt, and simply finished by adding a few more apple cubes and Cinnamon because often the simplest things are the best.
You’ll see how this no-cook Porridge bowl will satisfy you, without weighing you down too much, for a long time, and you’ll reach lunch without that annoying hunger.
And if during the day you feel peckish or even in the evening after dinner you want to treat yourself to a dessert, this spoon dessert will be perfect.
What are you waiting for, then? Let’s start preparing it together!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup water (or plant-based drink or cow's milk)
- 1 tsp honey (or maple syrup)
- 4.2 oz 0% fat Greek yogurt
- 1 apple
- cinnamon powder (according to your taste)
- 2.5 oz yogurt (vanilla)
- 1/2 apple
- cinnamon powder (for decoration)
Tools
- Bowl
- 2 Cups
Steps
In a bowl, mix rolled oats, honey, yogurt, and almond milk (or cow’s milk or another plant-based drink) until combined. Transfer the mixture into a single serving cup and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
After the rest period and before consuming, finish the preparation. Clean the Apple by removing the outer skin and core. First, slice it, then cut into very small cubes. Spread evenly over the Porridge layer.
Stir the yogurt with a teaspoon to soften it, I used Vanilla yogurt alternatively you can use 0% Greek Yogurt and flavor it with Vanilla Bean seeds. Pour everything over the apples then level with the back of a spoon.
You can already enjoy your no-cook Porridge as is by adding only a few more Apple pieces on top, sprinkle with Cinnamon, and decorate with a mint leaf. If you want to make it super delicious, melt 1 oz of white chocolate in the microwave with 1 tsp of coconut oil and distribute it evenly over the yogurt and Apples layer. Put it in the fridge to solidify for a couple of minutes and you’ll feel the bomb!!!
NOTES
WATER For an even creamier porridge, you can replace the water with an equal amount of cow’s milk or plant-based drink (soy, almond, oat, rice).
HONEY You can replace honey with maple syrup or sweetener for a light version.
VANILLA It’s incredible how a pinch of this essence can improve the flavor of your Porridge, but if you don’t like this spice, you can omit it.
OVERNIGHT REST: Let the oats rest in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the oats to soften to achieve the perfect texture.
APPLES: If you don’t particularly like its taste, you can replace it with any other type of fruit such as strawberries, raspberries, lemon, peach.
CINNAMON: The Apple and Cinnamon combination is always a winner, but if you don’t like this spice, you can omit it or replace it with Vanilla.
STORAGE
The OVERNIGHT OATS with Apples flavored with Cinnamon can be prepared the night before for the next day, and it will be even better. Once ready, it can be stored in the fridge in a closed container for up to 2 days.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How can I achieve the right consistency of Rolled Oats?
Achieving the perfect consistency of oats is all about the oats/liquid ratio. Generally, a 1:2 ratio works well. If the oats are too thick, add a bit more liquid; if they are too runny, slightly reduce the amount of milk/water next time.
How can I balance the sweetness when adding fruit and toppings to the Rolled Oats?
Overnight Oats with certain combinations (e.g., with hazelnut or pistachio cream) may turn out too sweet. Keep this in mind when deciding how to layer it, and possibly taste a spoonful before adding extra sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.
Can I heat my Overnight Oats Porridge or should it be eaten cold?
Overnight Oats Porridge is traditionally consumed cold or at room temperature, but if you prefer it warm, you can heat it for a few seconds in the microwave.
