Colorful Heart Cookies Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 lemon zest (grated)
  • as needed red food coloring

Tools

  • 1 Bowl
  • Cutters
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • 1 Plastic wrap

Steps for Cookies with Colorful Heart

  • Let’s prepare the dough:

  • In a bowl, place the flour and add the butter. Start kneading with your hands until you get a sandy mixture. Add the sugar, the egg and the egg white, the salt, and the grated zest of a lemon. Create a nice soft and homogeneous dough, cut it in two, and color one part with the red coloring. Let the dough rest in the fridge for at least 40 minutes.

  • After the time has passed, roll out the red dough and cut the hearts with the cutter. Place them next to each other to form a little train. If you want, to keep them stable, brush each with some egg white. Meanwhile, while preparing the light dough, wrap the hearts in parchment paper and put them in the fridge.

  • Take the hearts, place them on the dough, and cover them well. Create a log, wrap it in parchment paper and then in plastic wrap. Let it compact in the fridge for at least 4 hours.

  • Take the roll and cut the cookies, place them on a baking sheet, and bake in a static oven at 350/355°F for about 8/10 minutes. Take them out of the oven and let them cool on a rack. Always refer to your own oven for cooking times and temperature.
    Enjoy and happy Valentine’s Day!
