50 Shades of…Apple – Baked Apples

Today I will amaze you with a special recipe! 😃 Ladies and gentlemen, here are… the baked apples! 😃

A recipe that in the context of the 50 shades of… apple project could not be missed!

The baked apples is a classic recipe, present in all families, the classic recipe that all mothers prepare for their children, and grandmothers for their grandchildren, which children like because then you drink the juice, which mothers like because, for some reason, in this way, children always like apples.

It’s the classic recipe that older children snub because it’s too much like mom and grandma, but then later rediscover because it reminds them so much of childhood.
I still remember the baked apples that my mom cooked in the wood stove, it seemed like they were better cooked in that oven!

My children love them, and it is a real satisfaction for me to see how much they enjoy eating… even a fruit, which is something miraculous. 😃

So… here it is, the recipe for my baked apples: apples and sugar, just two ingredients to achieve a true delight. In my opinion.

  • Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Cost: Very Cheap
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 6
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All Seasons

Ingredients

  • apples (I prefer them small and with red skin, Royal Gala or Fuji)
  • sugar (1 scant teaspoon per apple)
  • water (a little, optional, if you want to get a bit more juice)

Tools

  • Baking Pans

Steps

  • Carefully wash the apples.

Place the apples, without drying them, in a baking dish that fits them snugly.
I wet them with a little water (just enough to cover the bottom of the dish), mainly to ensure that a bit of water collects in the stem cavity: this way, when you pour the sugar over the apple, much of the sugar stays “trapped.” If the skin is wet, the droplets left on the skin also help prevent all the sugar from sliding to the bottom of the dish.

For the amount of sugar, anyone can adjust to taste; for me, one teaspoon (or even a little less) is more than enough.
As for the type of sugar, today I wanted to offer you the traditional recipe, the one my mom used, so I used classic granulated sugar because it was what my mom used, but they are also excellent with brown sugar. Oh yes, when I was a child, we didn’t even know brown sugar existed! But with fruit, it goes very well, so why not try it even with baked apples? 🙂

Bake at about 390°F for at least 20 minutes, even half an hour if you like the apples very soft, and anyway… not before a nice sugary crust has formed on the skin and the skin has become wrinkled and even a bit roasted!

Great warm, but also cold. Slurp!
