Orange Juice Ice Cubes

These orange juice ice cubes flavored with rosemary were the highlight of our Christmas aperitif. 😊

As every year on Christmas Day, my sister-in-law and brother delighted us with original suggestions to which we all reacted with the inevitable, proverbial, “Oooohhhhh 😮 !!!”.

Meanwhile, I was thinking… “I have to copy these!!!”. 😃

Which is what I’m doing right now, in fact, while I’m writing this introduction, my own orange juice ice cubes are already in the freezer freezing!

They’re a treat, try them right away! Do you have orange juice at home? Or some oranges to squeeze?

Make them! They’re so beautiful they’ll make your aperitifs very scenic!

They can be used in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails šŸø or in sparkling wine, as we did on Christmas Day, and as we’ll surely do for the New Year’s toast. šŸ„‚

They can be enriched with pomegranate seeds to give a Christmas color touch, or you can vary the ingredients: for example, using a mint leaf instead of rosemary, or a blueberry, a grape, or some red currant instead of the orange piece. In short, get creative!

frozen orange juice and rosemary ice cubes
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very economical
  • Rest time: 3 Hours
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 15 cubes
  • Cooking methods: No cooking
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for 15 cubes

  • 3 oz orange juice (in my ice tray 0.21 oz per cube)
  • 1.76 oz orange (15 pieces)
  • 15 sprigs rosemary
  • pomegranate
  • red currant
  • grapes
  • blueberries
  • mint

Tools

  • Ice Tray

Steps

  • Here’s what you need: orange juice, orange cut into pieces, and rosemary.

  • The process is, as you can well imagine, very simple:

Wash the orange well, slice it, then cut each slice into small wedges.

For 15 cubes, 3 slices are enough, depending on the size of the wedges (and the size of the cubes).

    ingredients and ice tray
  • Wash the rosemary well and detach the necessary sprigs from the stem.

Insert an orange piece and a rosemary sprig into each compartment of the tray.

Optionally add pomegranate or currants for a Christmas color touch, or replace rosemary with a mint leaf.

insert orange pieces and rosemary into the tray
  • Pour the orange juice into the tray.

fill the tray with orange juice
  • Place in the freezer and wait for them to freeze.

Freezing time can vary from 2 to 4 hours, depending on various factors like the size of the cubes or the initial temperature of the orange juice. I prepared them in the evening, so they stayed in the freezer overnight.

Once they are frozen, remove them from the tray.
