Caramel popcorn is a sweet and tasty snack, quick to prepare.
The preparation process is simple, but requires some attention when handling the caramel: it involves preparing the classic popcorn, and then the caramel which should be poured over the popcorn while it’s still hot to coat them perfectly. The result is a snack with a crunchy shell that melts in your mouth: an irresistible treat to munch on in front of the TV, or to enrich a party buffet. The first caramel popcorn was introduced in America at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893 and was made with molasses caramel.

- 3/4 cups corn kernels
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp butter
- vegetable oil
- salt
Preparation of Caramel Popcorn
In a large high-sided pan, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil and then add the corn kernels, stirring so they are covered in oil.
Put a lid on the pan and let cook until you hear the kernels popping.Remove the pan from the heat and wait at least a minute before removing the lid and transferring your popcorn to a large bowl.
Season with a pinch of salt.Place the sugar in a saucepan, add 1/2 cup of water and without stirring, place over low heat.
Let the sugar dissolve without stirring the mixture and wait until it turns amber in color.
Add the butter and let it melt, then, very carefully, pour the caramel over the popcorn in the bowl, quickly stirring with a spatula to coat them completely.Line a tray with a sheet of baking paper and pour the coated popcorn to let them cool, and don’t rush to separate them if they stick together, until they are completely cold.
Transfer them back to the bowl and serve.
