  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 tbsps butter
  • 2 tbsps honey
  • 1 egg
  • ground cinnamon
  • ground cloves
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar (for the glaze)
  • golden sprinkles

Preparation of Christmas Honey Cookies

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, a pinch of cinnamon, a pinch of ground cloves, and baking powder.
Create a well in the center and add the softened butter in small pieces, honey, and the egg, and knead thoroughly until you have a smooth and homogeneous dough.
Form a dough ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and let it rest in the refrigerator for an hour.

  • After the resting time, on a floured work surface, with a floured rolling pin, roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
Use Christmas cookie cutters to cut the cookies and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, keeping them spaced out, and re-rolling the scraps to create more cookies until all the dough is used.
Bake them in a preheated convection oven at 340°F for about ten minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let them cool completely.

  • Put the powdered sugar in a bowl, make a well in the center and pour in two or three tablespoons of water.
Stir in a circular motion from the center of the bowl, gradually incorporating the sugar to avoid lumps.
Stir vigorously until you have a thick, fluid, lump-free mixture (if necessary, you can add very little water).
With the help of a teaspoon, put the glaze on the cookies, spread it with the back of the teaspoon, and decorate the Christmas honey cookies with golden sprinkles immediately, so that the glaze, when drying, holds them.
Let the glaze dry completely, then store your cookies in airtight or tin containers.
