Paradise Vol au Vents

Paradise vol au vents are delicious puff pastry treats filled with a soft, irresistible, and delicate no-bake cream.

The vol au vents are simple, neutral-tasting puff pastry baskets of French origin. Therefore, they can be filled with both savory and sweet fillings, turning into irresistible and tempting bites: one leads to another! In the sweet version, with paradise cream, they become delightful treats for young and old alike, perfect as a dessert, for a snack, or a sweet break.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (fresh, rectangular)
  • 5.3 oz mascarpone
  • 0.63 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2.1 oz powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • sprinkles (golden)

Preparation of Paradise Vol au Vents

  • Prepare the vol au vents.
Unroll the puff pastry and with a round cookie cutter of 2.4 inches in diameter, cut about twenty discs from each sheet.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place ten discs on it, keeping them spaced.

  • Inside each remaining 2.4-inch diameter disc, cut out a disc with a 1.6-inch diameter cookie cutter.
Beat the egg in a small bowl.
Prick the whole discs on the baking tray with a fork and brush them with the beaten egg, then cover each with a perforated disc, aligning the edges. Brush again and put another perforated disc on the first one, always aligning the edges, and repeat the same operation with the last perforated disc as well.

  • Bake them in a preheated static oven at 392°F for about fifteen minutes, until golden, then remove them and let them cool on a wire rack.

  • Prepare the filling.
In a large bowl, using electric beaters, whip the cream with the well-chilled mascarpone from the refrigerator, and the powdered sugar, until you get a smooth and firm mixture.
Transfer it to a pastry bag and fill the vol au vents.
Finish your paradise vol au vents by sprinkling them with golden sugar sprinkles as desired.
