Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3.5 tbsp milk
  • 3 oz egg yolks
  • 1.1 cups butter
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • lemon zest (grated)

Tools

  • 1 Stand mixer
  • 1 Dough scraper
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper

Steps

  • To make our sweet tarallucci cookies, place the butter, sugar, and grated lemon zest in the stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Start the mixer and let it mix until you get a fluffy and creamy mixture.

Add the egg yolks in two batches, making sure they are well absorbed, and then add the milk.

Now add the flour and baking powder to the mixture you have obtained.

Restart the mixer and incorporate all the flour into the mixture. It will take a few minutes to get a soft dough.

Turn the dough out onto the workbench and shape it into a block.

Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for about half an hour.

After this time, take your dough block and use a dough scraper to create pieces of approximately the same weight.

Take each piece and roll it into a small diameter sausage, which you will wrap around itself to create the tarallucci twist.

Place the tarallucci on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at about 330 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 18 minutes.

Let them cool down and enjoy.

The sweet taralli can be stored for many days in a tin box.
