Fava Bean Crudités

I might be biased, but my uncle’s garden is the most beautiful of all! This year, he planted, as always, a lot of vegetables and fruits, and I’ve always loved picking the delicacies with him as they ripen. Today, it’s time for the fava beans; this isn’t a recipe, but I’ll tell you how to enjoy them raw, I love them! Of course, these from my uncle’s garden are completely natural, without herbicides, chemical fertilizers, or anything else, so I recommend buying them from farmers at the market. Be careful if you suffer from favism, as you obviously cannot consume fava beans.

Ingredients

  • 10 fava beans
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (or ground black pepper)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Steps

  • Start by picking the fava beans from the garden, or buy them at the market; I recommend farmer’s stalls, they should be as natural as possible.

  • Remove the shell.

  • Remove the outer skin of the fava bean.

  • You can enjoy them as they are, without any additional seasoning, but if you prefer, put some salt and chili powder in a bowl and dip the fava bean into it.

  • Alternatively, you can also add some good olive oil to the salt and chili powder to create a dressing. If you don’t like spicy food, you can use ground black pepper.
