I met it at a friend’s birthday party and I never let it go! The Hugo Spritz is among my best cocktails, I find it fresh, summery, and with a unique taste. I liked it immediately and I think you will too! This cocktail originates from South Tyrol, believed to have been created by Roland Gruber, a bartender who proposed it as an alternative aperitif to the Spritz. Initially, lemon balm syrup was used instead of elderflower syrup, but it’s definitely harder to find.

Here are two refreshing ideas for you:
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Affordable
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 2 People
- Cooking methods: No cooking
- Cuisine: Italian Regional
- Region: Trentino-Alto Adige
Ingredients
- 6.8 oz Prosecco
- 3.4 oz sparkling water (or soda)
- 4 tablespoons elderflower syrup
- to taste mint (fresh leaves)
- to taste lemon (sliced)
Steps
With these quantities, you will get two glasses of Hugo Spritz. Start by adding a few ice cubes to each glass. If you want a more intense mint flavor, add the mint leaves as the first ingredient in the glass and gently crush them to release their aroma and flavor.
Pour two tablespoons of elderflower syrup into each glass. Obviously, the quantity depends on the intensity you prefer and the type of syrup you use, which may be stronger or weaker.
Now pour the Prosecco and sparkling water (or soda) into the two glasses; both beverages must be refrigerator-cold. I used 2 parts Prosecco to 1 part sparkling water, but if you want it lighter, you can use equal amounts of wine and water.
Finish with mint leaves and lemon slices; you can also squeeze a little juice into the glass. Stir everything to blend the ingredients well. If you want a more intense mint flavor, add the mint leaves as the first ingredient in the glass and gently crush them to release their aroma and flavor.
Absolutely delicious!
