Pasta and Peas

Pasta and peas is a traditional dish of Italian cuisine, a perfect comfort food for a homemade lunch or dinner. It is a very simple recipe that combines few genuine ingredients, such as pasta, peas, and onion, creating a tasty and nutritious first course.

Using frozen peas, easily available and ready to use, and a hot broth that enriches the flavor, this version of pasta and peas is perfect for those looking for a simple and light dish without sacrificing taste.

I confess that it’s one of my favorite dishes, and I eat it at least once a week! Try it, and I’m sure you’ll love it.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz frozen peas
  • 10.5 oz spaghetti (broken)
  • Half white onion
  • to taste vegetable broth (about 4 cups)
  • 3 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste black pepper (optional)

Tools

  • Pot
  • Lid
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Wooden spoon

Steps

  • First, let’s prepare the vegetable broth. You can find my recipe HERE, but if you’re in a hurry, you can easily use a broth cube.

In a large pot, pour the extra virgin olive oil and add the peeled and finely chopped white onion. Let it sauté over medium heat until it becomes transparent, about 3 minutes.

Add the frozen peas and stir to flavor them. Pour the hot broth into the pot with the peas. Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.

  • Drop the broken spaghetti directly into the pot with the broth and peas. Stir frequently to prevent them from sticking, and cook according to the times indicated on the pasta package, usually around 10 minutes.

If necessary, add more broth or hot water during cooking to maintain the right liquid level.

  • Our pasta and peas is ready. Adjust with salt and pepper and serve hot!

    Enjoy your meal.
